Green Cleaning Resources
WHAT IS GREEN CLEANING?
Many conventional products that are typically used for cleaning (i.e. Bleach, Spray-able Surface Cleaners, Bathroom Cleaning Products, etc.) contain harsh chemicals and contaminants that release toxins into our environment. Because of this, use of these products can create short and long-term health effects such as eye/throat irritation, chronic respiratory problems, allergic reactions, and headaches.
Green Cleaning, as an alternative, uses cleaning solutions and methods that are free of dangerous chemicals and do not harm people or the environment. These products can be homemade or store bought, but it is most important that all green cleaning products are free of toxins.
BENEFITS OF GREEN CLEANING
Green cleaning can help you save money, prevent exposure to toxic chemicals, and keep your home clean! Safe alternative products to use include non-toxic store bought products as well as many multi-purpose household substances like: baking soda, white vinegar, lemon juice, hydrogen peroxide, and borax.
PRODUCTS TO AVOID
Many products that are inexpensive to purchase can cost us much more when we consider the health and environmental effects they cause. When considering what products to use, always read product labels to better understand what is being released into your home.

HOW TO CHOOSE STORE-BOUGHT CLEANERS
Read Product Labels: If you are selecting cleaning products from the store, look for products that are labeled as non-toxic or biodegradable (popular brands include: Method, Seventh Generation, & Mrs. Meyers). Look for other words like: Phosphate Free; Recycled content containers/packaging; Unscented; Natural fragrances; Contains no dyes, chlorine, or hypochlorite; Full disclosure or labeling of “active” & “inert” ingredients
